The experience

Africa’s highest peak, step by step

At 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. It is a trek, not a technical climb: no ropes or ice axes, just steady walking from rainforest to glacier.

Our crews set an unhurried pace, and we choose the route around your fitness, schedule and time to acclimatise. The climb is easy to combine with a safari or a few days on Zanzibar.

Choose your route

Longer routes give your body more time to adjust to the altitude, which raises your chances of reaching the summit comfortably.

Good to know

How fit do I need to be?

No technical skills are needed, but good fitness helps. Regular hiking or cardio training in the months before your trip makes a real difference.

Which route should I choose?

It depends on your fitness, budget and how much time you have. Tell us and we’ll recommend a route.

When is the best time to climb?

The dry seasons, roughly January to March and June to October, give the clearest conditions on the mountain.

Can I combine the climb with a safari?

Yes. Many guests add a few days in Tarangire, the Serengeti or the Ngorongoro Crater, or relax on Zanzibar afterwards.
