About Gombe Stream National Park

Gombe Stream is Tanzania’s smallest national park — a strip of steep forested valleys on the shore of Lake Tanganyika, reached by boat from Kigoma.

It’s where Jane Goodall began her famous chimpanzee research in 1960. Today you can trek through the forest with a guide to spend time with habituated chimpanzee groups.

Questions

Good to know

How fit do I need to be?

Trails are steep, so moderate fitness helps. Treks can last a few hours depending on where the chimps are.
