Calving season

About Ndutu

Ndutu lies where the Serengeti meets the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. For most of the year it’s quiet woodland and short-grass plain around two small lakes.

From about December to March the Great Migration arrives to give birth: hundreds of thousands of calves are born in a few weeks, and lions, cheetahs and hyenas are never far away. It’s one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on earth.

Questions

Good to know

January to March, with February usually the peak of calving.

Is it worth visiting outside calving season?

It’s quiet and lovely, but the big herds are elsewhere — we’d usually suggest other areas then.
