Wildlife caldera
About Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world and part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its walls rise up to about 600 metres around a crater floor of roughly 260 square kilometres.
Permanent water and grassland keep wildlife here all year: lions, hyenas, elephants, buffalo, flamingos on Lake Magadi — and the rare black rhino. Nearby, Olduvai Gorge holds some of the earliest evidence of human evolution.
